In addition, the shooters assessed their own experience of tension, recording their impressions on a visual analogue scale. The competition results in the outdoor season, just after the meditation training period, were significantly better than the results from the previous season (P<0.05). No significant difference between the groups was observed in the test shootings in the control groups. In addition, a significant association was found between low tension and strong performance in the test shootings (correlation r = 0.42, P < 0.0001; Wilcoxon rank sum test, z = -3.36, P < 0.001); 18% (= r2) . The study concludes that meditation may enhance competitive shooting performance, due to the reduction in tension it generates.
